In the United States of America, we don’t bow to kings, tyrants, or
dictators.

That’s why I’m asking you to join me in loudly opposing Donald Trump’s
plan to hold a massive military parade through the streets of Washington
D.C. on the day of his 79th birthday.

men and women of our military deserve better than to be used as props in
Trump’s egotistical birthday parade.

I’m the proud daughter of a military family, and I grew up going to
military parades. My dad was a drill instructor. And on the weekends, he’d
take us kids to the parades to watch the marching bands. I hold those
memories close, and I still love to go hear the music the Marine Corps
bands play.

But the parades I grew up going to were always about honoring the service
and sacrifice of our military – not about inflating the ego of a
draft-dodging wannabe dictator.

My father was a U.S. Marine Corps and combat veteran. My mother served in
the Navy.

It’s pathetic, but not surprising, that Trump would take what should be a
prideful celebration of service and co-opt it into a
forty-five-million-dollar birthday celebration for himself.

Especially while he and Elon Musk hollow out the VA and threaten essential
health care and housing services for veterans and their families.

My parents taught me the meaning of service to our country and to our
Constitution, and I’ve spent my entire life striving to honor those
lessons. That’s why I’m asking you to join me in speaking out against
Trump’s selfish military parade.
