The U.S. House of Representatives is back in session for another week of committee hearings, legislative votes, and floor activity. For more information on what I'm working on this week, be sure to follow me on social media. I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America— I serve to fight and work to make it stronger. That’s what I am doing while believing our brightest days are yet to come. Yours in service, Click below to follow me on social media. Mann.House.Gov The Week Ahead This week, the U.S. House of Representatives will celebrate National Police Week to honor the brave men and women who wear the uniform and put their lives on the line every single day to protect our families and communities. In the Big First and across the country, law enforcement officers run toward danger when the rest of us run away. I proudly and unapologetically stand with the men and women in blue and oppose any effort to defund, demoralize, or dismantle the law enforcement agencies that keep our streets safe. This week and every week, we honor their service and sacrifice. America is grateful for all they do. Today, the House Agriculture Committee will begin to consider our portion of the budget reconciliation package, identifying more savings for taxpayers and giving our farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers the certainty they deserve. This process is about shrinking the size of the federal government, eliminating wasteful, fraudulent, and abusive spending, and delivering the economic relief rural America needs. If we don’t extend the 2017 tax cuts, Kansas families will face an average tax hike of $2,200 come January. That is the last thing we need after four years of inflation under President Biden. When we pass our portion of the budget bill tomorrow, we will be one step closer to advancing President Trump’s legislative agenda to be signed into law. Meetings in the Office U.S. Bank Independent Community Bankers Association MyLand Delivering for America In just a few short months, President Trump has delivered on his promises to secure the border, cut wasteful spending, unleash American energy, and get our country back on track. This past March, apprehensions along the southern border dropped 95% from the average daily encounters under President Biden, and inflation is finally cooling. The stark contrasts in priorities for Democrats and Republicans could not be clearer. It feels great to have real leadership back at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, and I look forward to many, many more days of winning. You can read my full thoughts on the first 100 days of this historic second term below. Reflecting on the First 100 Days Combatting Organized Retail Crime Organized retail crime and supply chain theft have surged in recent years, disrupting businesses, driving up costs for consumers, and threatening critical transportation networks. Cargo theft alone is estimated to have increased by 40% from 2023 to 2024, impacting railroads, truckers, and ports across the country. I cosponsored the Combatting Organized Retail Crime Act, which establishes an Organized Retail and Supply Chain Crime Coordination Center within the Department of Homeland Security. This center will strengthen collaboration between federal, state, and local law enforcement, as well as private sector partners, to develop coordinated strategies to prevent and respond to these crimes. Reimbursing Veterans for Fraud Last week, I voted to pass the Veteran Fraud Reimbursement Act, bipartisan legislation that ensures veterans who fall victim to fraud can have their stolen benefits restored quickly and without unnecessary red tape. This bill allows the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) to reimburse defrauded veterans without requiring them to navigate burdensome bureaucratic barriers. Our veterans served this country with honor, and they deserve peace of mind when it comes to the benefits they’ve earned. It’s shameful that anyone would try to take advantage of our servicemen and women, and this bill sends a clear message that the bad actors who prey on our veterans will be held accountable. Renaming the Gulf of America Last week, I voted to advance the Gulf of America Act of 2025. For over 100 years, American taxpayers have funded the defense and development of the waters along our southern coast, protecting shipping lanes, driving economic growth, and strengthening national security. This legislation honors that history and reaffirms America’s commitment to securing our borders and supporting coastal communities. It reflects the strength, investment, and leadership of the United States along the Gulf of America. Recognizing Gold Shield Families First responders put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities, and their families make significant sacrifices as well. I cosponsored a resolution recognizing Gold Shield Families, the loved ones of fallen police officers, firefighters, EMTs, correction officers, emergency dispatchers, and emergency service providers. These families carry a unique burden, and it’s important that their sacrifices and service to our country are never forgotten. Discussing President Trump's Fiscal Agenda with KSRL I had a great conversation with Erik Stone on KSRL about the work we’re doing in Congress to advance President Trump’s agenda and deliver results for Kansans. We discussed the budget reconciliation process, including the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s recent markup, where we saved taxpayers more than $4 billion by rooting out Biden-era waste, investing in U.S. Coast Guard missions to secure our borders, and modernizing air traffic control systems to keep America’s skies safe. We also discussed the importance of extending the 2017 tax cuts to prevent a $2,200 tax hike on Kansas families, and the bipartisan Veteran Fraud Reimbursement Act we passed last week to ensure veterans can recover their stolen benefits without unnecessary red tape. I appreciate you having me on! Strengthening Air Traffic Control Last week, I introduced the Air Traffic Control Workforce Development Act of 2025. Workforce limitations have led to a widening skills gap across all industries, including for our nation’s air traffic controllers. Our bill seeks to ensure that we can prepare and equip the next generation of capable, qualified air traffic controllers to protect the future safety of our skies and maintain the American gold standard of aviation. The Air Traffic Control Workforce Development Act codifies and expands the FAA’s Enhanced Air Traffic-Collegiate Training Initiative (AT-CTI), funds tower simulator systems to accelerate training, and supports mental health services for controllers; all critical steps to ensure America’s skies remain the safest in the world. This is a commonsense solution to a growing problem, and I’m proud to lead this effort to keep America’s aviation system strong. Improving Air Safety Advocating for the Nation's Military Spouses Congress must always support military families who have made tremendous sacrifices on behalf of our country. I cosponsored the Military Spouse Hiring Act, which expands the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) to include the hiring of qualified military spouses. This will make it easier for businesses to hire military spouses, reduce unemployment within military families, and provide more economic stability for those who serve our nation. Our men and women in uniform and their families deserve our fullest gratitude and support, and our bill does just that. Constituent Services Meetings in the District Kansas Hospital Association All Kansans deserve access to affordable, quality health care. Kansas hospitals are on the front lines of delivering care, and the Kansas Hospital Association is committed to ensuring our hospitals have the resources they need. I met with KHA to discuss issues like protecting the 340B program and policies to help support and boost our rural hospitals. Rural hospitals play a vital role in keeping Kansas communities strong, and their perspective remains essential in shaping sound health care policy. Thanks for the productive meeting! Eisenhower Excellence in Public Service Series President Eisenhower, Kansas’s favorite son, set the gold standard for leadership and service for Kansans. I was honored to meet with this year’s class of Eisenhower Excellence in Public Service participants. These talented women are committed to making a difference in their communities and leaving them better than they found them. I appreciated the chance to hear their perspectives on the future of our state and country. Thank you for your service! American Short Line & Regional Railroad Association Short line and regional railroads play a critical role in our economy, connecting rural communities and agricultural producers to markets nationwide. I met with leaders from the American Short Line & Regional Railroad Association to discuss the importance of supporting these vital connections, including their push for continued funding for the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements Grant Program. Short line rail is essential to keeping Kansas agricultural producers competitive, and I appreciate their work in keeping America moving. Beef Alliance As the representative of the number one cattle-producing district in the country, I understand the impact beef has on our economy. I met with members of the Beef Alliance to discuss the importance of making President Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent. We also spoke about the need for a comprehensive, fiscally conservative Farm Bill that makes sure America’s cattle producers have the tools they need to remain competitive on the global stage. Thanks for meeting with me! General Aviation Manufacturers Association Aviation and aerospace manufacturing are a cornerstone of Kansas’s economy, supporting thousands of jobs and driving innovation in our state. I met with leaders from the General Aviation Manufacturers Association to discuss how we can strengthen the sector through sound federal policy. Ensuring timely implementation of the policies enacted in the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, building a strong talent pipeline, and making investments in aviation safety and air traffic control will keep American aviation competitive on the world stage. Thank you, General Aviation Manufacturers Association, for all you do to keep Kansas and the U.S. at the forefront of aviation across the globe! Visiting Washington, D.C.?
