[link removed] [[link removed]] John,
Last month, CREW filed a lawsuit after the Department of Health and Human Services, under RFK Jr.’s leadership, laid off 10,000 employees and gutted public records offices across HHS—violating the Freedom of Information Act and the Administrative Procedure Act.
Now, RFK Jr. is reportedly restoring the FDA's FOIA office as our lawsuit challenging the firing of CDC FOIA staff progresses.
The pressure is working!
That's good news John, but CDC's FOIA office is still illegally shuttered, so our fight isn’t over. We'll keep fighting for transparency until all of HHS complies with the law.
Today, our fight is advancing to the next level, with a hearing laying out the urgency of the case.
We need your help to ensure we can keep up our fight for transparency in our government. If you’re with us, make a donation today to support our work >>> [[link removed]]Donate → [[link removed]]
The CDC’s FOIA office is a critical way for the public to access information on the agency’s operations and understand the government’s ability to respond to infectious disease outbreaks. And it isn’t optional: government agencies are required by law to respond to FOIA requests.
Given the ongoing outbreaks of measles and other infectious diseases across the country, it is crucial that the American public has transparency into the CDC’s operations and DOGE’s apparent interference in public health agencies.
That’s why CREW sued to challenge the closure of the CDC’s FOIA office and demand compliance with the law to process records requests and provide information to the American public.
We’re fighting to defend the public’s access to the CDC and ensure transparency and accountability in our public health system. But our legal battles take time and resources, and we’re relying on your support to ensure we can keep up our fight. [[link removed]]
