As Maryland’s Attorney General, I took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution—and that includes ensuring that every person who calls Maryland home is afforded the full protection of due process under the law.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a husband, father, longtime Maryland resident, and Salvadorian immigrant, was wrongfully deported to a prison in El Salvador by the Trump Administration.
Despite the administration admitting that he was mistakenly deported due to an “administrative error,” federal attorneys are playing dumb and refusing to comply with the Supreme Court's order to facilitate the return of Abrego Garcia.

The Trump Administration's defiance is threatening the system of checks and balances that ensures that the rights of every American remain protected from gross federal overreach and abuse of power.
I will not stand by and watch as any administration strips individuals of their constitutional right to due process. The pressure must remain on the Trump Administration to act, not with delay or excuses, but with the urgency and importance this moment demands.
Mr. Abrego Garcia must be returned home, and our constitutional right to due process must be upheld.
In solidarity,
