Hi John, Great news from the Oregon legislature! Today, Oregon senators unanimously approved a bill to establish August 25 as “Oregon Adoption Day." The bill was introduced by pro-life Republican Representative Lucetta Elmer, who chose that day because that’s when she herself had been adopted. “Adoption is an act of courage,” Rep. Elmer previously said on the House floor. “It requires sacrifice, selflessness, and a whole lot of faith from all sides. It weaves together lives in ways that reflect the best of our humanity, and it is worthy of recognition.” For Elmer, the establishment of “Oregon Adoption Day” shines “a light on the beauty of adoption” and lets “every adopted child in Oregon” know: “You are seen. You are loved. And you matter.” >Read more here. It’s been so incredible to see Oregon’s legislature – where pro-life representatives are in the superminority – approve such a beautiful, life-affirming bill. It will now head to the governor’s desk for a signature – and we expect she’ll sign it! Right now, please take a few seconds to thank the lawmakers in the House and Senate who voted to approve this bill. Once again, I am just so glad to see the success of Rep. Elmer’s bill. The establishment of Oregon Adoption Day sends a powerful message that every human life is a unique gift, regardless of the circumstances. It’s a message we desperately need here in Oregon, where abortion is tragically legal up to the moment of birth. Because everyone deserves an advocate, Lois Anderson P.S. Adoption touches many lives.
