This week, I joined “Mattress Mack” to launch his new initiative to help Texans find meaningful work. I also spoke out against the radical proposal from the left to defund the police, and explained why universal lockdowns were misguided in response to COVID-19.

GETTING HOUSTON BACK TO WORK

Getting Americans back to work is a top priority for me. Here in Houston, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale is launching an initiative to do just that. I was proud to join Mattress Mack as he launched the initiative this week, and he has long been an example of how private businesses can positively impact a community.
His new initiative is helping Texans find meaningful work, which is critically important in the aftermath of COVID-19. DEFUNDING THE POLICE - TURNING A RADICAL SLOGAN INTO A DANGEROUS POLICY

Everyone - including cops - wants to thoughtfully address police brutality. “Bad apples” can’t be tolerated in an institution as important as law enforcement.But defunding the police is a dangerous policy that will harm the communities who are hurting the most right now.
This is dangerous, counterproductive, and deeply irrational. “Defund the police” is not a call from the fringes of the far left anymore. It has gone from a radical slogan to actual policy in a major American city, within days. We should be focusing on commonsense reforms to address police brutality, not advocating for the dismantling of a force of men and women dedicated to keeping our communities safe. UNIVERSAL LOCKDOWNS WERE MISGUIDED

The media has made a fascinating pivot extremely quickly. After encouraging mass protests that violated every social distancing requirement on the books, they immediately begin blaming GOP governors for a rise in cases. That includes here in Texas. Don’t let the media scare you.
Our hospital capacity in Texas is well prepared to handle any uptick in COVID-19 cases. In fact, no health care system outside of New York City was in real danger of becoming overwhelmed. Remember: the goal of the lockdowns was to save our health care system.
Once we had enough data and understanding of the virus to know that our health care system was well-prepared to handle an uptick in cases, we should have ended the lockdowns. People understand that there is an element of risk when dealing with a virus without a cure, and they’re ready to confront that risk responsibly to get back to their lives. This isn’t about blaming anyone, but we must acknowledge that universal lockdowns were misguided so that we do not repeat the same mistakes in the future. CLICK HERE OR ON THE IMAGE ABOVE TO WATCH.
