![]() Hi team, Last night, as I was preparing to take the debate stage, Donald Trump endorsed my likely Republican opponent, Jack Ciattarelli, in the race for governor. As you probably know, in most elections, Trump endorses whichever candidate promises to follow his orders most blindly — and Jack Ciattarelli is no exception. If he’s elected, Ciattarelli has said he will bring DOGE to New Jersey — the disastrous Elon Musk-led effort that has halted cancer research funding, imperiled our disaster response, and cost thousands of jobs. He’s said he wants an abortion ban in New Jersey and is promising cuts to Planned Parenthood, which provides vital health care services to over 100,000 women in our state every year. And Trump’s endorsement of Ciattarelli comes after Ciattarelli shamelessly begged for it — visiting Trump at his golf club in Bedminster and posting on social media about what a “great honor and pleasure” it was to be in Trump’s presence. Team, if Ciattarelli is so willing to bend the knee in order to win Trump’s support, how can we EVER expect him to stand up to Trump if he’s elected governor? To me — and I hope to you as well — public service is not about kissing anyone’s ring. It’s about doing what’s right and standing up for your community. And I promise you that that’s how I will approach every day of my job as governor if I have the opportunity to serve. But Trump’s endorsement means that money is about to pour into Ciattarelli’s campaign from all over the country — likely millions of dollars — and we’re at real risk of being swamped by it if we don’t fight back. Republicans know that I’m the biggest obstacle between them and the governorship. The right-wing dark money attacks have already started, and they’re only going to get worse with this latest development.
Thanks for having my back, Mikie |
