Friends —
We hope folks are staying safe and healthy. Team Warner is committed to sending weekly updates to keep folks around the Commonwealth up to date with what Mark Warner is working on in the Senate to support every Virginian through this challenging time.
Here’s just some of what Sen. Mark Warner is working on this week:
-
Mark Warner became an original co-sponsor of the Justice in Policing Act of 2020, led by Sens. Kamala Harris and Cory Booker. This bill provides common-sense changes to hold police officers who break the law accountable, address unchecked bias, change the culture of law enforcement, and lay the groundwork for trust between law enforcement and our communities. While there is no singular policy solution to correct years of overpolicing and systemic racism, Mark believes this bill is an important first step.
-
This week, Mark and his Senate colleagues released a study showing that their Restore Our Parks Act could support 100,000 jobs across the country — 10,000 in Virginia alone — while providing the resources to address maintenance backlog in our national parks. This bill is part of the Great American Outdoors Act, which also includes full funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), and has broad bi-partisan support. The Senate is expected to vote on the Great American Outdoors Act next week.
-
Mark laid out his ideas to make our health care system work for everyone, including expanding and strengthening Medicaid and helping workers who were laid off or furloughed during the pandemic regain access to health care, in an op-ed for the Virginian-Pilot.
Thank you for your support.
— Team Warner
P.S. You might have noticed that we have a new look. We rolled out a new campaign website this week, complete with a campaign store. We’d love it if you checked it out!
