We’re thrilled to announce our endorsement of Ghazala Hashmi for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia!
While reproductive freedom remains under relentless attack, Virginia State Senator Ghazala Hashmi has been leading the fight to defend abortion rights and the full spectrum of reproductive healthcare. She is the only candidate in this race endorsed by reproductive rights organizations—and for good reason:

Sen. Hashmi wrote the bill protecting Virginia doctors from extremist out-of-state prosecutions.
- She also wrote the Right to Contraception Act, which would have guaranteed Virginians’ right to use birth control. The bill passed the General Assembly with bipartisan support, but Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin vetoed the bill when it got to his desk.
- Sen. Hashmi is working to pass a constitutional amendment that will secure abortion rights in Virginia.
- She champions working families and reproductive freedom in every role she’s held.
We’re fired up about Sen. Ghazala Hashmi, because the Lieutenant Governor of Virginia holds real power to shape the future of abortion access in the state—which is a vital abortion access point in the Southeast.
The Lieutenant Governor of Virginia:
- Breaks ties in the State Senate, where major abortion decisions will be on the line
- Presides over the State Senate, influencing the legislative agenda
- Can become Acting Governor, with influence over executive decisions
This race is a chance to win back pro-choice power at the state level, and we’re proud to be all hands on deck to support Ghazala Hashmi.
