Dear John,

Our energy system wasn’t set up for the people who use electricity… It was set up for utility and oil executives to make money off of it. That is why Maine must pass the Energy Fairness Act (EFA) – a transformative bill that would hold powerful utility companies accountable and create a fairer, more humane energy system for all Mainers.

This Thursday, the EFA will have a Public Hearing in front of the Energy, Utilities, and Technology Committee. MCV will be there to testify in support, and we want to show Maine lawmakers that the EFA has overwhelming and broad support. Sign up here to join us at the hearing and show your support for energy fairness. [[link removed]]

Even if you can’t come, will you sign our petition today to tell lawmakers that Mainers deserve a fairer energy system? [[link removed]]
I support the Energy Fairness Act! [[link removed]]

Everyone needs access to affordable electricity, and for older Mainers or people with disabilities, even a brief disconnection can be life-threatening. In 2023, CMP and Versant disconnected customers thousands of times — all while making over $200 million in profit. This was after five years where Maine saw the fastest rising household electricity costs in the nation thanks to our reliance on natural gas.

The Energy Fairness Act will protect vulnerable customers from disconnection, strengthen accountability policies (so utility companies can’t charge customers for things like travel for board members), and pave the way to bring more clean electricity online, which will in turn lower costs and create jobs. The only way you, me, and our neighbors will have enough power to win both a cleaner system and a more compassionate system is by working together.

📢 I’m ready to tell Maine lawmakers I support Energy Fairness for Maine families! [[link removed]]

Thank you for your commitment to a fair and sustainable energy future,
