John,
Remember H.R. 9495, the nonprofit killer bill that more than 100 social justice and civil rights groups came out to oppose last November? It’s back. This time it’s folded into a budget reconciliation package being voted on in a House committee TODAY AT 2 PM ET.
Will you call key lawmakers ASAP to urge them to strip this dangerous censorship bill from the budget?
CALL NOW
This bill—now called Section 112209 — would hand the Trump treasury full censorship powers over orgs fighting for racial justice, climate justice, queer liberation, Palestinian self-determination, and even tech justice.1 How? By giving the Trump admin the power to accuse any organization of “supporting terrorism” with no reasoning and no recourse.2 This kind of insidious censorship has historically been levied to disempower racial justice and anti-genocide groups.
Now is not the time for Democrats to play nice and let censorship slide to pass a budget. Three Dems on the House committee voting today voted “yes” on H.R. 9495 back in November, and they need to feel the pressure to flip. That means we need phones ringing off the hook.
Call these lawmakers now and urge them to oppose Section 112209 and refuse to give Trump the power to crush rights organizations.
STOP CENSORSHIP
Can’t call? Send a letter ASAP using this tool from our friends at CAIR. Anything you can do matters.
Solidarity,
Alex at Fight for the Future
P.S. Can you spread the word on Instagram3 or Bluesky?4 It helps a ton. Thanks for all you do!
