The Bill of Rights Institute teaches history and civics. A key component of our mission and vision is supporting civics, history, and government educators in teaching complex subjects and inspiring students to understand and engage with the world around them.

The State of Civics Survey

Our annual State of Civics Survey helps us understand the civics landscape so we can better serve educators in the coming year . Your feedback helps equip us with the data to provide you with better tools, resources, and accommodations for you and your classroom.

The survey is now open and accepting responses! Take the survey today and share it with your fellow civics educators.

All respondents will be entered to win a drawing for a $500 Amazon gift card and FREE BRI swag packages will be offered to 300 educators.

Nominate the National Civics Teacher of the Year!

Help BRI find the next Teacher of the Year for the 2025-2026 school year! To get started, nominate your choice for National Civics Teacher of the Year.

Civics teachers in grades 6-12 are eligible to be nominated and all nominated teachers will be asked to submit a short essay as part of the competition.

Ten finalists for the National Civics Teacher of the Year Award will be announced in August, at the start of the 2025-2026 school year, and the National Civics Teacher of the Year will be named on Constitution Day on Sept. 17, 2025. The National Teacher of the Year will win a $5,000 prize and all remaining finalists will receive $1,000.

The MyImpact Challenge Deadline is May 18th

The MyImpact Challenge deadline is less than a week away. Encourage students who are actively participating in service projects to create a contest login and start their MyImpact Challenge today!

The contest highlights students actively engaged in service, volunteerism, or entrepreneurship in their communities. Students can win up to $10,000 in prizes and teachers also have the opportunity to win $500 in prizes.

The contest deadline is Sunday, May 18, 2025, 11:59pm.

BRI's 2025-2026 Teacher Fellowship is Open

Teacher Fellowship is a 9-month initiative aimed at empowering 15 educators to deepen their understanding of civics and civic education through philosophical inquiry and innovative teaching methods.

Educators with at least one year of classroom experience or who are currently in a social studies teaching role are eligible to participate. Accepted teachers will be compensated a total of $2000 in quarterly $500 increments.

Applications for the Inaugural Class of the BRI Teacher Fellowship are due July 1, 2025.
