John --

We’ll get straight to the point -- we have some big news from Washington, and we wanted to make sure you all saw it, too:

POLITICO: 'Dark money' groups dodge reporting requirement in new regulations

John, we won’t sugarcoat it. This is bad news for our campaign.

New rules allow dark money groups all across the country to skirt regulations that require transparency over who’s funding them. Here in Maine’s 2nd District, we already know that groups like these are targeting this district with loads of outside cash.

That means we need to step up our game in a major way -- starting with this team of grassroots supporters. Can you chip in $10, $15, or whatever you can today to keep this seat competitive, even as our opponents ramp up their dark money spending? > [link removed]

Our grassroots-oriented campaign is rooted in Jared’s people-powered approach to governing -- that’s why he has been such a champion of government transparency throughout his time in Congress.

But these new regulations corrode that transparency, making it easier for influential political groups to hide their major donors and possibly seek questionable sources of funding. To put it simply, that’s just not healthy for our democracy.

In a district like ours, which has long been the target of these dark money groups, we know that better than anyone.

So if you (like us) believe that our representatives should be elected by grassroots-based, people-focused campaigns -- and not shady special interest groups who seek to hide their major donors -- then consider chipping in whatever you can to our team today. > [link removed]
