Hi there,
Today, key committees in the House are meeting to kick off their sprint toward Speaker Mike Johnson’s Memorial Day deadline of delivering President Trump’s devastating reconciliation budget bill to the Senate.
The plan House Republicans have put forward would cut social safety net programs like Medicaid—and cause approximately 13.7 million Americans to lose their health care coverage—in order to cover the cost of the $4.5 trillion in tax breaks for the ultra wealthy that Trump signed in 2017.
This is a stark reminder of the real, material impact of this administration’s cruelty. That’s why we need to break MAGA’s control of our government next year, and [3 to Win]([link removed]) is our comprehensive, data-driven plan to do it. We only need to gain an additional three House seats to have a lever of governing power to put a check on Trump.
Many of the House Republicans who have pledged that they will never cut Medicaid sit on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the Ways and Means Committee, or Agriculture Committee, and will be making these decisions this week. This proposed plan will hurt millions—including many swing voters who believed the promises House Republicans are now breaking. [No matter where you live, you can help make sure there are political consequences.]([link removed])
This is the biggest political fight over health care since Republicans tried and failed to repeal the Affordable Care Act during Trump’s first term in 2017. That fight motivated voters in 2018, and so could this one in some of the most winnable races with GOP incumbents, including:
- Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) - This was the slimmest margin of victory for House Republicans in 2024, just 799 votes.
- Rep. Zach Nunn (IA-03) - In 2022, Democrats running statewide won this district with at least 54% of the vote, despite Republicans having their largest turnout advantage in 8 years.
- Rep. Gabe Evans (CO-08) - Evans won by fewer than 2,500 votes in 2024—the second slimmest victory for Republicans that year.
- Rep. Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) - After the April 2025 special election where Judge Susan Crawford won the district by 7.5 points—a 15-point swing from Kamala Harris’ margin in 2024—this seat is now considered a toss-up.
- Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02) - Vice President Harris won this district by almost five points in 2024.
[Our 3 to Win fund allows you to give directly to the eventual Democratic nominees who will run against these and other Republicans and to Democratic incumbents in key seats.]([link removed])
Some of the other Republicans your donation will go towards defeating are:
- Rep. David Schweikert (AZ-01), who has said that not cutting Social Security and Medicare would lead to the “end of your Republic.”
- Rep. Rob Bresnahan (PA-08), one of the most active stock traders in the freshman class—who campaigned on banning stock trading by members of Congress.

This will be the defining fight of the 2026 election cycle because it is concrete proof for voters that House Republicans are breaking their promises to their constituents. Stay tuned for more from us on ways you can join this fight, because it's critical that we hold Republicans accountable.
With gratitude,
– The Swing Left Team
