On the evening of Mother’s Day, House members revealed their bill to dramatically cut Medicaid and reduce access to health care—especially reproductive health care. The bill will be considered by the Energy and Commerce Committee today, Tuesday, May 13th. If it passes the committee, it could soon be voted on by the full House.

We need your help to protect access to contraception!

Among many other cuts and additional red tape that will cause people to lose coverage, the bill bans Medicaid funding from going to Planned Parenthood health centers. Already, 19 million women in need of publicly funded family planning live in contraceptive deserts—counties where they lack reasonable access to health clinics offering the full range of contraceptive methods. This bill will make that so much worse.

Two-thirds of women on Medicaid are in their reproductive years. They need access to contraception, STI testing and treatment, Pap smears, and breast cancer screenings just as much as anyone. But if they have no place to get that care, then their health and reproductive well-being will suffer.
