SUPPORT OUR CAMPAIGN

Hello John,

Chameleons mistreated. Wild-caught parrots caged alone. Monkeys fed poor diets...

Wild animals exploited as pets need your help. Can you sign our petition? We want the Scottish Government to help end the suffering.

You don’t need to live in Scotland to sign the petition. But, we do hope a big success in Scotland will lead the way for similar legislation elsewhere in the UK.

If we’ve not spoken before, I’m part of Born Free’s Policy team. We’ve been raising the alarm for decades – millions of wild animals suffer due to the global exotic pet trade. To help stop the suffering, significant change is urgently needed.

Now Born Free has joined forces with OneKind and the Scottish SPCA to specifically call on the Scottish Government to take action. And YOU can help.

To reduce suffering, the new Don’t Pet Me campaign calls for:

➡️ A new ‘permitted list’ of species (whose welfare needs can be met in a home)
➡️ Better regulation of pet sales
➡️ Official care standards & welfare education
➡️ A ban on wild-caught animals

Steve’s sad story

You could help animals like four-year-old Steve, the marmoset. His owner couldn’t look after him properly and, horrifically, the little monkey was addicted to marshmallows. Fortunately, he was rescued, but had to be weaned off the sweet treats. Now Steve is safe at a specialist sanctuary.

Currently, almost any species can be kept as a pet in Scotland and the rest of the UK. It’s time for a major change.

YOU can help us to reform laws and stop wild pet suffering by signing our petition, then forwarding to family and friends.

Thank you! Together we make a great team.
