Donald Trump didn’t just attack the press, the courts, or our elections. He launched a full-scale political purge of America’s career civil service. Scientists, public health experts, environmental regulators, and policy professionals were fired, not because they failed at their jobs, but because they did their jobs with integrity.

Their only crime? Speaking the truth. Whether it was about climate change, racial justice, or pandemic preparedness, Trump’s White House wants to silence the experts and stack the government with loyalists who will twist facts to fit his authoritarian agenda.

That’s why Rep. Don Beyer’s REHIRE and PREP Acts are so important. The REHIRE Act gives preference to qualified civil servants Trump purged, giving them a path back to public service. The PREP Act would ensure stronger job protections for the next generation of federal employees, so no future president, Trump or otherwise, can repeat this political assault on truth and democracy.
