Joshua Cole (HD 65) and the narrow Democratic majority in the House of Delegates have together passed numerous pieces of legislation to advance progressive values in Virginia and block the far right attempts to limit access to abortion or curtain civil rights. Here is what Joshua has been doing in Richmond and why we need to raise the early money to send him back there!
Protecting Reproductive Rights
Every year, conservatives in Richmond work tirelessly to deny citizens across the Commonwealth their reproductive liberty and body autonomy. Joshua will continue to work to block any attempt to criminalize abortion, silence victims of assault, and restrict access to contraceptives in Virginia.
Funding Affordable Housing
Joshua secured $15 million in the proposed budget funding to support first-time homebuyers by putting up to $10,000 in their pockets for their first home. Joshua is also fighting to offer rental assistance to Fredericksburg families, providing relief to all residents, including the thousands of public servants who have lost their jobs.
Increasing Access to Affordable Health Care
Joshua believes that health care is a human right and that Virginians should have access to quality health care they can afford. That’s why he supports removing work requirements tacked onto Medicaid expansion and capping the costs of lifesaving medications like insulin. He supports banning balance billing, a practice where an individual receives care from a hospital or provider inside their insurance network but is hit with a surprise bill because the staff treating them were out-of-network.
Fully Funding Public Schools
Joshua believes in fully funding public schools, so our children and teachers have the resources they need to succeed. He knows that great teachers are the foundation of our education system and that we need to recruit, retain, and support more teachers. This means paying them what they deserve, and giving them the tools they need to succeed in the classroom. Despite the dismantling of the Department of Education and the chaos in Washington, Josh will continue to fight to ensure all Virginia’s children have access to a world-class education.
