Congressman Crenshaw here,

This week, I joined "Matress Mack" in Houston for the launch of his new initiative to help get Texans back to work. I also explained why defunding the police would harm the communities we are seeking to help and why the universal lockdowns in response to COVID-19 were misguided.

Please reach out to my offices if you have a concern, want to hear what we’re working on in Congress, or are having trouble with a federal agency. I have a full team in Texas and in the nation's capital ready to assist you. Be sure to stay up to date by following me on TwitterFacebook, and YouTube. For a behind-the-scenes look, follow my staff's official Instagram account.

Now, let's catch up.

getting texans back to work

It was great to join “Mattress Mack” in launching his initiative to help Texans find meaningful work. This is critical after COVID-19. Millions of Americans and countless Texans have lost their livelihoods as businesses have laid off workers, and it's a top priority for me to help get Texans get back to work.

By boosting job training and addressing underlying causes of joblessness, Mattress Mack's initiative will help Texans get back on their feet. As we start to reopen, it's critical that people have the skills necessary to re-enter the workforce. CLICK HERE OR ON THE IMAGE TO READ THE HOUSTON CHRONICLE'S REPORT.

WE CANNOT MAKE THE SAME LOCKDOWN MISTAKES

‪Universal and indefinite lockdowns were a misguided response to COVID-19. A lack of critical thinking cost millions of people their livelihoods.‬ We chose the costliest option to combat the pandemic and seemed to ignore the fact that much of our health care system was fully prepared to handle an uptick in cases, which was the original threshold for reopening.

This isn’t about blaming anyone, but instead acknowledging this fact so that we do not repeat the same mistakes in the future.‬

defunding the police is a dangerous policy

Defunding the police is a radical slogan that has transformed into actual public policy in major American cities where crime is already increasing.‬ All of us - including police officers - want to take commonsense steps to address police brutality. But dismantling the police and the men and women who keep our communities safe is not the right approach.

‪We must call it out for what it is: a dangerous idea that will harm communities of color the most.‬ CLICK HERE OR ON THE IMAGE ABOVE TO WATCH.
