Donald Trump’s Department of Justice is no longer focused on defending civil rights, and is instead being used to carry out his political agenda.
According to new reporting, Trump’s DOJ has stripped down the division responsible for protecting voting rights. Longtime attorneys have resigned. Investigations into voter suppression have been stalled or shut down. Instead, Trump has directed the DOJ to go after college protests and immigrants and to ignore civil rights violations that don’t serve his interests.
One former DOJ official put it bluntly:

“This is what you do when you don’t really know what the section does and just want to create chaos in the simplest way possible that doesn’t involve you reading anything,”
“It is extremely clear that the intent is to get absolutely nothing done. And the effect will be that absolutely nothing gets done.”

This isn’t a misunderstanding. It’s the plan. Trump wants to dismantle the very institutions that protect our rights and replace them with tools of control.
