After a passionate response from donors like you to our Mother’s Day 2X Match campaign, we were just granted a one-day extension from generous donors who will still match your gift until midnight tonight.

Your support helps provide mothers and newborn children with lifesaving care by sending midwives, maternity clinics, and delivery kits to regions of conflict and turmoil around the world.

Espérance, a midwife at Kyeshero General Hospital in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), said, “This week, I assisted 19 deliveries – two of which were life-threatening emergencies. We're working in difficult conditions, with the fear of not being able to save everyone. But we're holding on.”

With the help of UNFPA, the Kyeshero hospital is one of the very few facilities in the conflict-ravaged North Kivu Province of the DRC offering maternal care.

The support of donors like you — especially today, when your gift is matched — helps midwives provide urgently needed care for mothers and children in the DRC and around the globe. Please rush a 2X-MATCHED emergency gift today.

Providing support for midwives can save the lives of mothers and their newborns cost-effectively. That is why UNFPA supports the training and deployment of midwives in conflict regions worldwide.

Women and newborns in fragile and conflict-affected settings are twice as likely to die in pregnancy and childbirth, and account for over 60% of maternal deaths globally.

In Haiti, Nigeria, Gaza, and beyond, UNFPA is supporting midwives, who so often make the difference in life-or-death situations, like complicated childbirth, so that they have the lifesaving resources to deliver hope and stability to women and girls who need it most.

Nadifo Abdihakim Elmi, a midwife at a UNFPA-supported clinic in Somalia, captured the power of midwives:

“In every crisis a country faces, it’s midwives who carry the burden. In floods, we leave our homes to help mothers. In displacement, we follow and support them. No matter the crisis, midwives are always there. Support midwives, so they can support mothers.”

Before time expires on our 2X match at midnight, please make a lifesaving gift to support the work of midwives in the DRC, Somalia, Haiti, Ukraine, and around the world.
