We watched this happen in real time: Trump announced sweeping tariffs. The stock market tanked. A few days later, after public outrage and global distress, Trump stopped his tariffs and the markets soared.

In between those two announcements, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene bought as much as $300,000 in stock across major companies: Amazon, Tesla, JPMorgan Chase, and more. She also sold off Treasury bills.

Did she know that Trump was about to end the tariffs and send the stock market sky-high? We don’t know.

But here’s what we do know: members of Congress — on both sides — have beat the market nearly every year since 2020. And they’ve done it while sitting on committees that regulate the very companies they’re investing in. That’s not public service. That’s self-serving, and it’s not fair.

We need to end this now. Thankfully, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick have introduced the Bipartisan Restoring Faith in Government Act, which would ban members of Congress, their spouses, and their dependents from owning or trading individual stocks — no exceptions.
