Every week brings a new and increasingly concerning attack on our democracy. One of the most recent examples of Trump’s abuse of power is his use of the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol to terrorize travelers, regardless of their citizenship status or reason for coming to our country.
The stories of their abusive tactics keep rolling in. A mother and her children held in a windowless office space for five days. A green card holder detained and denied access to his medication. A U.S. citizen handcuffed and subjected to a body search after questioning the detention of her traveling partner.

CBP’s actions are turning international travel into a harrowing ordeal for tourists, lawful residents, and even U.S. citizens. They’re violating our right to due process, detaining and deporting people indiscriminately, and causing thousands of international tourists to cancel trips to the U.S. for fear of being detained for simply having been born in another country.

Their tactics are highly illegal and morally reprehensible. That's why 40 of my colleagues and I are demanding answers about CBP's abusive tactics. We’ve already seen some important wins – the courts are stepping in to stop searches without a warrant! But there is still more pushback needed to force CBP to follow the law.
