Americans have made it clear that public safety is a top concern. Instead
of listening to the people, the Trump administration is slashing federal
funding commitments to community violence intervention programs. Gutting
proven programs that have successfully made our communities safer isn’t
just dangerous, it will be deadly.
President Donald Trump and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi have terminated
$811 million in grants for victim services and crime prevention, cuts that
will hinder initiatives to address gun violence, stop the vital support of
at-risk youth, and prevent victims from obtaining necessary recovery
support.
This is a cruel and dangerous move that puts communities in California and
across the country at risk and threatens public safety — so Rob is
speaking out.
Today, Rob joined GIFFORDS Center for Violence Intervention, California
Assemblymember Mike Gipson, and State Senator Jesse Arreguín to urge the
Trump administration to reverse course and reinstate these vital grants.
This isn’t the first time Trump has threatened public safety. On day one
of his administration, he pardoned all of the January 6th rioters,
including those convicted of assaulting police officers. He has cut more
than $55 million meant to help first responders save people from
overdosing on fentanyl. And he shuttered the White House Office of Gun
Violence Prevention. (You can be sure, under Rob’s watch, California DOJ’s
Office of Gun Violence Prevention is here to stay.)
As Rob said, the White House is disregarding the safety of the people it
is sworn to serve and protect, and turning its back on survivors of
violence.

The more we speak up, the better our chances of getting these lifesaving
programs funded again.
