Dear Friend,

A lot has happened over the past few weeks while I’ve been back in Washington. Allow me to give you a recap:

Trump’s First 100 Days in Office

Well, we hit the 100-day mark for President Trump’s second term, and his policies have resulted in an absolute and total unmitigated disaster. Trump, DOGE, and Elon Musk have unconstitutionally fired tens of thousands of Americans. They have signed dozens of executive orders and taken hundreds of executive actions that have resulted in the dismantling of federal agencies, threatened cuts to vital programs like SNAP and Medicaid, and put legal residents and U.S. citizens in harm’s way. Elon Musk may be leaving his position in the federal government soon, but along the way, he’s been allegedly self-dealing and giving himself government contracts. The American people have been loud and clear: they do not want what this administration is serving. That’s why I will continue to show up for the American people and fight back against these harmful policies at every turn. We will win: in Congress, in the courts, and in our communities.

The GOP’s Reconciliation Package and Trump’s “Skinny Budget”

The GOP was back again last week with their budget reconciliation plans, and President Trump also sent his Fiscal Year 2026 “Skinny Budget” to Congress. Both are disastrous for the American people. The GOP’s tax package includes $7 trillion in giveaways to billionaires and big corporations at the expense of hardworking Americans like you. With this budget, hundreds of thousands of New Mexicans could lose access to Medicaid and SNAP. Children will lose access to free school lunch, and students on Pell grants will be impacted. Conservatives even snuck in amendments to sell off public lands in the dead of night, and they refused to engage in any meaningful debate on the tax plan they proposed.

The scary thing? Trump’s “skinny budget” is even worse for hardworking Americans. Trump's budget has been worked on by the authors of Project 2025, and his policies are the “Great Betrayal” on full display. He's following through on his massive tax package, gutting social programs and imposing ongoing tariffs that are driving economic instability and increased costs for the American people. Trump’s budget would gut vital programs across all major federal programs—including those crucial to funding our schools, mental and behavioral health programs, clean water and air, and tribal programs. I will continue fighting for you every single day.

DOGE Subcommittee
Republicans on the DOGE subcommittee, chaired by Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, held a hearing on trans athletes, but we should be talking about tackling waste, fraud, and abuse in government. Throughout this hearing, I made clear to the LGBTQIA+ community: you are seen, you are loved, you are respected, and people are fighting for you. Conservatives chose to weaponize the trans community to distract you from the failures of the Trump administration's policies. I will always fight for the LGBTQIA+ community, no matter what.

I am honored to represent New Mexico and our communities in Congress, and I do not take a single moment for granted. I will continue to fight to ensure that your voices and concerns are heard because New Mexicans matter.
