May 12, 2025 — The Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State (OSS) is providing notice that various state boards, councils, committees, and task forces are accepting applications for open seats.

Minnesotans who apply for a seat within twenty-one days of its initial posting are assured full consideration by the appointing authority. The final day of the twenty-one-day posting period is listed next to each seat on the Open Positions webpage.

Open Appointments Application Process - What Else to Know
- Board contacts can answer questions about applying for a seat.
- Appointing authorities are organizations that review applications and decide who to appoint to vacant seats.
- You may apply for a seat after the twenty-one-day posting period but keep in mind that an appointing agency may have finished reviewing applications by that time.
- Applications remain active for one year unless withdrawn by the applicant.
- During that year, applications to a board may be considered for any vacancy on that board.

Here's how to find a board's contact person:
- On the OSS Boards & Commissions website, search for the board's name under the blue Boards & Commissions tab.
- Click on the blue hyperlink for that board.
- On the board's website, look for the board contact's name, phone, and email link in the upper right-hand corner.
Minnesotans are encouraged to become involved in their communities by serving on one of Minnesota's 283 Open Appointments boards, councils, task forces, and advisory councils.
Based on Minnesota's Open Appointments Laws, the Secretary of State acts as an administrator in publishing board vacancies, receiving applications, and recording appointments. OSS does not screen applicants or provide input on who to appoint.
