John, it's Hank Johnson, and Trump's team wants to destroy the separation of powers.
Stephen Miller (known insurrectionist and Trump's current Deputy Chief of Staff) has just filed a lawsuit to have The White House oversee the ethics and finances of the Supreme Court—and according to top civil rights lawyer Marc Elias, Miller says it's all because of "mean" Democrats like me.
If you don't have time to listen to the whole thing before you chip in to support my work to hold these Justices accountable, here's what you need to know: [[link removed]]
1️⃣ The Constitution outlines 3 co-equal branches of government that check each other. What it doesn't include is an overpowered executive branch, like Trump and other billionaires have been paying to create.
2️⃣ Even the MAGA majority on the Court knows that some Trump policies are blatantly unconstitutional, which is why they've ruled against him several times this year.
3️⃣ We don't even have to guess how this will go if the executive gets the power to directly oversee the courts… Trump is already ignoring court orders that don't align with his viewpoint, he refuses to answer questions about the legality and constitutionality of his actions, and "jokes" about becoming a dictator and taking a third term.
That's why my colleagues and I started the Court Reform Now Task Force, where we aim to restore judicial independence and meaningful checks and balances.
Because if we wait for Court Reform, ALL of Americans' rights are in jeopardy.
Today, will you chip in to support progressive leaders in the House fighting to hold our Government accountable? [[link removed]]
