John, did you see
this on Friday?
[ [link removed] ]Screenshot of a post on X from C-SPAN (@cspan) showing Stephen Miller
speaking in a video clip. The post reads: 'Stephen Miller says the White
House is looking into suspending habeas corpus, which protects people from
unlawful detentions: 'A lot of it depends on whether the courts do the
right thing or not.''
The White House Deputy Chief of Staff, longtime Trump advisor, and known
white supremacist Stephen Miller openly admitted that this administration
is “actively looking at” suspending habeas corpus, the fundamental legal
principle that protects us from unlawful detention.
The writ of habeas corpus is centuries old and guarantees that any person
detained in the United States has the right to see a judge and make their
case.
Already, legal experts are sounding the alarm: the president and his
administration do NOT have the authority to do this — only Congress does,
and only in very specific circumstances.
But Miller and Trump are trying to claim that the U.S. is facing an
“invasion,” the same argument for their use of the Alien Enemies Act to
deport undocumented immigrants with no due process.
This is yet another attempt at a massive power-grab and a move toward
authoritarianism, John. We
can’t let them get away with it.
