[May is Mental Health Awareness Month]([link removed])
Resilience is a capacity we all have deeply rooted within us. And even when we find ourselves struggling, there are concrete actions we can take to increase our personal resilience.
Our new campaign, [In This Together: Building Emotional Resilience in Ourselves and Our Communities]([link removed]), takes a deep dive into resilience and its many forms, and how they can each support mental wellness and suicide prevention. Our ["Building Resilience" webpage]([link removed]) outlines specific actions you can take to strengthen your resilience muscle –– starting with the simple but powerful act of checking in with yourself for signs of struggle, such as not getting enough sleep or going out as much.
AFSP Chief Medical Officer Dr. Christine Yu Moutier, reminds us there are important steps to take immediately when you realize you’re in distress. Addressing basic needs like sleep, hydration, and nutrition can make a world of difference for mental health. [Watch Dr. Moutier’s video]([link removed]) to learn more about what to do when you’re struggling.
Throughout May, we’re highlighting new stories, resources, and events to help you build resilience in yourself and your communities. Here are just a few ways you can join us in recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month:
- May 15 @ 3 p.m. ET — In the latest [#RealConvo Concert]([link removed]) combining interview and musical performance, AFSP Director of Writing and Entertainment Outreach Brett Wean is joined by musician Jonah Marais of the renowned band Why Don’t We. Marais is now a solo artist featured in Amazon's 2025 Artists to Watch campaign, and opens up about his own mental health journey and how he finds resilience.
- May 24 & 25 –– In a new episode of Audacy’s I’m Listening podcast series, created in partnership with AFSP, our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Christine Yu Moutier joins Katie Neal, host of radio show Katie & Company, for a discussion about game-changing strategies that encourage personal resilience, and the ways we can each support –– and find support within –– our communities. The episode will air on local stations across the U.S. on May 24 and 25. Stay tuned for more information!
- Strong Talk With Ray Stenglein –– The latest episode of AFSP’s [Strong Talk podcast]([link removed]), “Building a Path to Suicide Prevention in the Construction Industry,” is now available.
