The rights of people in this country are in extreme danger as people, including children born here, are rounded up, disappeared into ICE camps, deported. Stephen Miller, Trump's MAGA enforcer claimed days ago that the right of habeas corpus (meaning the government must show cause for detaining a person) won't apply to non-citizens.
On his first day in office, Trump issued an executive order (Executive
Order 14156) claiming to strip away the fundamental right to Birthright
Citizenship – a shameless attack on the U.S. Constitution, the rule of
law, the separation of powers, and the lives of countless people...
Birthright Citizenship is not a policy. It is not a law. It is part of the Constitution.
Ending Birthright Citizenship in a legal manner – as terrible and
illegitimate as that would be - would require a constitutional process
that Trump REFUSES to abide by. By trying to cancel Birthright
Citizenship through executive fiat, the Trump/MAGA fascist regime is
trampling on the rule of law itself. It is accelerating a new and blatantly dictatorial form of rule – a FASCIST rule in the most powerful country in the world.
People are starting to rise up in protest. Groups of people have gathered when ICE showed up to grab neighbors. The Mayor of New Jersey's largest city was arrested by federal agents Friday for objecting to Delaney Hall, a private ICE detention center. See Refuse Fascism outside of the prison this weekend:
