These letters are a powerful tool lawmakers use to rally support among their peers for key funding priorities, such as Head Start, the Child Care Development Block Grant and Preschool Development Grants.
Notably, while President Trump’s latest budget recommendations (also called the “skinny budget”) do not include Head Start in their list of eliminated programs, we know that additional advocacy is necessary to demonstrate the program’s impact and maintain current funding levels.
We also know that the President’s budget proposal is just that - a proposal. Only members of Congress have the power to determine funding levels for early learning and care programs, like Head Start. Take action today by contacting your member of Congress and encouraging them to sign on to their party’s “Dear Colleague” letters in support of key early learning programs families rely on every day.
