Eight years ago this week, I launched my first campaign for elected office to serve as your Attorney General.

Back then, I sought advice from anyone willing to take my calls. I appreciated it all and learned from it—like the importance of listening to many voices, questioning conventional wisdom, and staying true to those who trusted me with their vote.

One piece of advice I received was to focus only on voters in the Front Range, where most of the population lives, and ignore the rest of the state. That didn’t sit right with me. And it was contrary to what I’ve heard from wise leaders—like former Governor Romer—who told me: “You must go to all parts of the state. It will make you a better candidate, and, once elected, a better Attorney General.”

I took that advice to heart. During my first campaign, I visited all 64 Colorado counties in Colorado. After being elected as your Attorney General, I’ve kept going back—often multiple times. It wasn’t just the right thing to do; it made me a better leader.

I’ve learned so much from visiting rural Colorado. But what’s more, I’ve learned something equally inspiring from voters along the Front Range: they care deeply about the entire state, not just their own communities. They want Colorado to thrive as a whole, and they often want to hear about the lessons and connections I’ve built across the state—from the San Luis Valley to the Western Slope, and the Eastern Plains to Northern Colorado. They want a leader who listens to everyone, and acts on behalf of all of us.

As I campaign to serve as our next Governor, I’m staying true to how I’ve led for the past eight years. I’ll meet people where they are (literally and figuratively), l will listen to their concerns, and I will work hard to deliver results that improve their lives.
