Hi John, it’s Alex.
We launched Donavan McKinney’s campaign two weeks ago. Today, we’ve got big news: Rashida Tlaib just endorsed him.
She’s standing with Donavan — a lifelong Detroiter, public servant, and Justice Democrat — because she knows how much it matters to have real allies in Congress.
This is the first endorsement any member of Congress has given to any Democratic primary challenger this cycle.
This endorsement is a huge moment. Rashida has been censured for calling for a ceasefire, smeared for standing up to AIPAC, and relentlessly targeted for speaking truth to power. She knows exactly what it takes and the kind of fight Donavan is stepping into.
Rashida represents the Congressional district directly next door to MI-13. She knows better than anyone that Shri Thanedar needs to go because this district needs a real fighter who will stand up to Trump, and Rashida needs another ally in Congress to fight by her side.
We’re building Donavan’s campaign from the ground up, and we know what could be coming: a flood of AIPAC and other special interest money, establishment opposition, and attacks on his values.
But there’s a clear path to victory — and it starts with all of us showing up early and sending a message that this movement is strong, united, and growing.
The more we raise in these early weeks, the more powerfully we can show that Donavan has momentum and a grassroots movement behind him — and that Rashida won’t be alone. Rush $5 now to fuel our fight →
Donavan is a lifelong Detroiter from a working-class family who’s spent his career in public service and community organizing, dedicated to helping students, workers, and our environment.
I can’t stress enough the importance of electing more leaders from the community they represent who will stay committed to their working-class and progressive values once they’re in the halls of power.
Donavan is exactly that kind of leader, which is why he’s the first 2026 candidate to be endorsed by Justice Democrats and our first new primary endorsement in years.
He’s also an anti-war candidate who is committed to rejecting campaign contributions from AIPAC in exchange for votes to enable the ongoing genocide of Palestinians — something we desperately need more of in Congress.
Justice Democrats and its grassroots movement of people like you stood with our leaders like Rashida when she first ran in 2018 and when she was up for re-election in 2020, 2022, and 2024, and then stood by her side when House colleagues censured her for leading the call for a ceasefire and lasting peace in Palestine as the only Palestinian-American member of Congress.
This is exactly why we need to grow the Squad. Leaders like Rashida need more allies alongside them when they’re fighting for working-class people and standing up to the billionaires and wealthy elites who control our system. The more true progressives we send to Congress, the more we can ensure our communities are represented — not just the interests of the powerful, but the actual needs of everyday people.
In solidarity,
Alexandra Rojas
