Hi John,
When the Trump administration abruptly suspended U.S. foreign assistance, we knew the consequences for communities throughout Latin America would be immediate and severe. Within days, we reached out to WOLA’s partners across Latin America and gathered 100 rapid-response survey submissions detailing the real-world impacts this freeze was having on civil society.
I remember sitting at my desk as survey responses, emails, and messages poured in, feeling heartbroken. Story after story of partners cutting staff and facing the prospect of shutting their doors completely as they lost critical funding for their work with migrants, women, survivors of violence, families searching for disappeared loved ones, and other communities. It was devastating to see, but we knew we had to act.
We did what WOLA always does when human rights are at stake: we took immediate action.
We compiled that firsthand information into a clear, digestible set of facts, bringing our findings and the experiences of our partners directly to policymakers, funders, and the media, making sure the real impacts of decisions made behind closed doors in Washington simply couldn’t be ignored.
Now, three months later, we have been subjected to more frenzied days meant to wear us down. The human costs of the decision to freeze funding are still unfolding. In the face of it all, I am thankful to be part of a team that’s in a position to push back, and bring stories and solutions from the ground directly to Washington, day after day.
WOLA is not worn down. On the contrary, we are emboldened, breaking our records in publications, online engagement, and event participation.
But we can’t do it alone. We need your help to keep up the momentum.
We have the energy, the know-how, and the proposals, but we rely on allies like you to help fund this work. I want to sincerely ask you to support us today by donating at the link below.
Thank you so much for your support,
