Fellow Conservative,

On Sunday, May 31, 18 people were murdered in Chicago, the single most violent day in Chicago in over 60 years.

In Brooklyn, New York, 7 people were shot in three different incidents all within the span of 10 minutes on the evening of June 8. Murders in New York City more than doubled from the same week last year.

In the face of this increased lawlessness, the left cries “Defund the police!” This is the wrong answer.

Our newest blog post addresses three false charges liberals make against police officers… and the facts to counter them.

Check out our list of Policing: Fact vs. Fiction.

On Thursday, former Vice President Joe Biden held a roundtable discussion in Philadelphia about reopening the American economy and falsely reported that Heritage did not support the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.

Biden said, "Imagine if we had that $2 trillion tax cut [Tax Cuts and Jobs Act] that he [President Donald Trump] promoted and got passed for the wealthy. Even places like the Heritage Foundation said it didn't grow the economy.” This is 100% FALSE.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act promoted widespread economic growth, created American jobs, increased wages for American workers, allowed families to keep more of their hard-earned money.

Now, as the economy recovers from the coronavirus shock, it is more important than ever to maintain these pro-growth policies. One way to do that, is with the ALIGN Act, which Heritage Action recently added to our scorecard.

This past week, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed into law Illinois’ $43 billion state budget.

The budget not only increased spending by 7.5% but it also relies on a federal bailout to fund part of it.

Illinois politicians increased spending in their already wasteful state budget, and are praying for a bailout from taxpayers around the country.

But why should Floridians, Texans, or Coloradans, be required to fund Illinois’ spending addiction?

Governors in states such as Illinois, New York, and California want a bailout, but they’re not willing to put in the hard work of governing, and find ways to cut waste and live within their means.

Swampy state politicians see a bailout as an opportunity to bring more money into their state, fund public-sector unions, and funnel that money back into their political war chests.

Conservatives must actively oppose state bailouts.

  • Heritage Action alum Russell Vought’s nomination to be Director of the Office of Management and Budget was voted out of committee this week, and will soon receive a final vote before the full Senate.
  • This past week, Heritage Action signed a letter opposing government price controls for the healthcare industry. Soviet-style price controls won’t heal America’s healthcare system. We need a free, open, and transparent marketplace. For more information, check out our “Oppose Socialist Health Care” toolkit.

That’s all for this week. Enjoy your weekend and we’ll see you next week!
