Comrades,
As members of the Santa Fe DSA and part of a broader movement for environmental and social justice, we must reaffirm our commitment to moving New Mexico away from dependence on oil and gas.
The possible state ruling allowing fracking waste to be used off the oil field represents a dangerous escalation in the industry’s disregard for our environment and public health. This waste—laden with toxic chemicals and often radioactive materials—threatens to contaminate our water supplies and harm frontline communities already bearing the brunt of extractive industry impacts.
Now more than ever, we need to show up in solidarity with Indigenous communities, rural residents, and environmental defenders who are pushing back against this ruling. It’s on us to organize, educate, and pressure our elected officials to prioritize a just transition away from fossil fuels and reject any policy that puts corporate profits above the safety of our communities. Let’s keep building power together to protect our land, our people, and our future.
In solidarity,
Santa Fe DSA
