Economic Growth Hiding in Plain Sight

Smoke and mirrors: The mainstream media want you to believe that President Trump is sinking the economy. But a closer look at the latest GDP numbers tells a different story.

  • “Reducing government is a great sign that Trump is ‘re-privatizing the economy,’” writes Research Fellow E.J. Antoni, “but this positive move shows up statistically as a decrease in GDP,”
  • There’s more good news, says Antoni: “investment (the impetus of long-run real economic growth) is skyrocketing, up 21.9% at a seasonally adjusted annualized rate.”

Turns Out, Millions of Americans Want to Work in Manufacturing

Scott Olson/Getty Images

Get to work: While only 25% of those polled by the Cato Institute said they’d be better off working in a factory than their current job, that’s enough people to double current employment in manufacturing.

  • “With the right mix of deregulation and permitting reform, we can help American businesses expand production—enabling workers to find the meaningful jobs they’re ready to take,” writes research fellow Parker Sheppard.

Abrego Garcia Had Plenty of Due Process

Had his chance: The Left’s newest poster child, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, has been painted as a victim of a corrupt system who was denied due process.

  • They “fail to acknowledge that Garcia already received due process at his third opportunity. He is owed no more,” writes Lora Ries, director of the Border Security and Immigration Center.

What’s Behind the Spike in Homelessness?

Far from home: Homelessness is on the rise—but not everywhere.

  • “Areas that didn’t actively ‘welcome’ and provide taxpayer services to individuals who entered the U.S. illegally did not experience similar increases in homelessness or spending on social services,” writes Research Fellow Rachel Greszler.
  • Now, under the Trump administration, these sanctuary cities are at risk of losing funding that supports their citizens.

It’s Time to Fix the CDC—Before the Next Pandemic

ED JONES/AFP via Getty Images

Fresh start: With a new administration, the time is ripe for an overhaul of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), which completely failed in its handling of the COVID-19 crisis.

  • “Protecting America from the next pandemic first requires improving the CDC and clarifying its core mission,” write Robert Redfield, former director of the CDC and Heritage senior visiting fellow, and Robert Moffit, senior research fellow.

Heritage in 'The Hill'

Moving and shaking: “The Hill” interviewed Heritage President Dr. Kevin Roberts on Heritage’s influence and bridging the gap between Reagan and Trump conservatism.

  • Roberts defined a vision of Heritage that combines Reagan’s principles and Trump’s willingness to get things done.
  • “If we put those two things together, then for the next 50 years of Heritage and in the conservative movement, I think that defines who we are,” he said.

Heritage President Dr. Kevin Roberts appeared on “The Megyn Kelly Show” to talk about President Trump’s crackdown on Harvard. Roberts said that Harvard and other elite colleges “have been using the public’s money against us by implementing all this DEI nonsense, to say nothing of the very steady decline in educational attainment.” Watch the clip on X.
