Ag Industry Wins in Trump Trade Deal

This week, the White House announced a deal has been to reduce barriers to American exports in the United Kingdom, and it is a great example of how this administration is fighting for the American people. For years, nations around the world have been discriminating against American agriculture, and under the Biden Administration, the U.S. agricultural trade deficit soared to $32 billion. Under this agreement, not only have U.K. tariffs dropped from 5.1% to 1.8%, but the ethanol, beef, and other ag industries now have unprecedented access to their markets.

I have been working on this myself as a member of the Ways and Means Committee. Last month, as these negotiations were going on, I met with members of the British parliament to discuss trade opportunities. I emphasized the importance of increasing market access for for agricultural goods. Looks like they got the message! And this is just the beginning. I look forward to working with the 100+ other countries that have said they want to work on improving trade with America under Republican leadership.

Blocking Communist China's Influence on Campus

Somehow, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been able to influence our higher education by funding nonprofit cultural and educational centers called Confucius Institutes. These make it easier for the CCP to steal our research, recruit spies, and spread communist propaganda across universities. Obviously, this goes directly against America's best interests, and House Republicans are doing something about it.

This week, we passed the DHS Restrictions on Confucius Institutes and Chinese Entities of Concern Act, which would prevent CCP influence on college campuses. This bill would prohibit the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from providing any funding to a higher education institution that hosts these Confucius Institutes.

I discussed issues facing title professionals across the country and solutions to the housing supply and affordability crisis with the American Land Title Association. I greatly appreciated their perspective.

The Minnesota Association of Townships represents the 1,776 townships across the state and I was glad to meet with them this week to discuss tax and transportation issues.

I was happy to discuss the tax issues that impact Minnesota Credit Unions when they came out to D.C. this week. These credit unions help Minnesotans become homeowners, build assets, and afford their children's education.

Thrivent came to D.C. to talk to me about how they bring financial security and community service together across Minnesota.
