Email from Rep. Gonzales A Proud Moment for Faith and Country This week, I watched with pride as Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected Pope Leo XIV—the Vatican's first American pope in history. As a lifelong Catholic, this moment was both historic and deeply personal. I look forward to his leadership in this new chapter for the Church and the world. God Bless Pope Leo XIV. Calling for Transparency: Criminal Alien Data and State Reimbursements Last year, I received data from the Biden administration confirming over 662,000 illegal aliens with criminal histories were on ICE's docket. During this week's House Appropriations Committee hearing, I asked DHS Secretary Kristi Noem for updated numbers regarding how many convicted criminal aliens we still have at large in our country. Secretary Noem revealed to me that the Trump administration believes there are more than 662,000 criminal illegal aliens in our country. Congress holds the power of the purse, we need to use every resource at our fingertips to deport criminals who have no business in our country. To watch round 1 of Rep. Gonzales’ questioning of DHS Secretary Noem, click here. For round 2, click here. For the last four years, Texans have been at the forefront of the border crisis. It's the federal government's job to enforce our nation's border and immigration laws. When the Biden administration failed to act, the Lone Star State stepped up. It's only fair to reimburse Texas for securing the border when the federal government went AWOL. I shared this concern with Secretary Noem during the hearing this week. It’s time for reimbursement, accountability, and lasting solutions. Honoring San Antonio Spurs Coach Popovich Coach Pop is more than a San Antonio legend—he’s a pillar of America's greatness in athletics. As a lifelong Spurs fan, I introduced a House Resolution to honor his remarkable NBA career. For more information on the House Resolution to honor San Antonio Spurs Coach Pop, click here. Protect Texas Energy Click here to watch Rep. Gonzales’ questioning of FBI Director Patel. West Texas is home to a large portion of the Permian Basin, America's energy powerhouse. Oilfield theft has been a recurring issue, causing our oil and gas producers to lose time, resources, and property. The Permian Basin Oil Theft Task Force, under the FBI's watch, partners with local law enforcement to break up criminal networks and protect the Permian Basin's resources. This week, I shared with FBI Director Kash Patel the importance of keeping the task force well-funded and intact. Follow @RepTonyGonzales on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
