Dear Friend,
Good afternoon, and welcome to our
Weekend Update.
I’ve been lucky to have three amazing mothers in my life—my
wonderful mom, Maeve, who raised me, my wife, Shelley, an incredible
mother to our three children, and my mother-in-law, Rosemary, who
gained a son when I married her daughter.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms across Pennsylvania and
nationwide! We’re grateful for everything you do!

The picture above was taken on
Thursday at the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce Titan of Industry
Award Celebration honoring my brother, Scott Meuser. Our mother,
Maeve, is standing between the two of us. Scott is a tremendous
businessman who works incredibly hard to deliver the best mobility
products in the world at Pride and successfully employs hundreds of
hardworking Pennsylvanians. I am incredibly proud of my brother and
Pride.
On Thursday, President Donald J. Trump
announced that he had reached a new trade agreement with the United
Kingdom. As one of our oldest and closest allies, this deal sets the
foundation for more trade deals. This historic deal was cut on the
80th anniversary of Victory Day for World War II. President Trump and
Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a historic agreement that allows
American companies unprecedented access to the UK markets while
bolstering U.S. national security. Click
here to read more about the trade deal.
I joined "Varney & Co." on Fox Business to discuss
President Trump’s new trade framework with the UK—and what it means
for America’s economy.
This is a strong step forward. Fairer trade, lower energy costs,
and pro-growth tax policies will keep driving investment here at home.
I also laid out how we can responsibly reduce spending while extending
key provisions of President Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which
delivered significant benefits for families and small businesses. Click
here or below to watch.

History has been made. This week, the College of Cardinals
elected Pope Leo XIV—the first American pope and a proud graduate of
Villanova University.
I join those around the world in offering prayers and best wishes
for his papacy. May his leadership be guided by faith, wisdom, and
strength.
Last Sunday, I joined “Face The State” on
Local 21 CBS News, WHP Harrisburg, to discuss the first 100
days of President Trump’s second term, our efforts to secure the
border, reduce wasteful spending, and restore government transparency.
We also discussed the importance of supporting our veterans, reining
in the national debt, and the need for leaders to put policy before
politics. Click
here or below to watch.

This week, we recognized Small Business
Week. Small businesses power our economy — employing over 59 million
Americans and nearly 70% of the workforce in Pennsylvania’s 9th
District.
This National Small Business Week, we
recognize the entrepreneurs, risk-takers, and job creators who drive
innovation in every corner of our country.
As a member of the House Committee on
Small Business and the Financial Services Committee, I’m focused on
advancing pro-growth policies that give our small businesses the tools
to grow, hire, and invest.

Please join me in supporting local
businesses this week and every week. I spoke on the floor of the U.S.
House in celebration of our nation’s small businesses. Click
here or below to watch.

It was great sitting down with Jake
Sarwar from FOX 56 WOLF TV in my Washington office today for
a wide-ranging interview on the issues that matter most to
Pennsylvanians. The full segment will air in the coming weeks—stay
tuned!

My son, Danny, joined me this week in
Washington, D.C. Danny was fortunate to spend valuable time with
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson. We have a tremendous Speaker
working hard to deliver the America First agenda.

Danny also met with Congressman Ryan
Zinke (Montana-1). The Congressman is a veteran who served in the
Navy, graduated from Officer Candidate School, and ultimately
became a U.S. Navy SEAL. He went on dozens of deployments targeting
terrorist cells in Asia, war criminals in Bosnia, and combating the
rise of radical Islamic terrorists in the Middle East. During his
military career, he held several leadership positions, including as
Ground Forces and Task Force commander at SEAL Teams SIX, overseeing
the U.S. Navy SEAL BUD/S training after 9/11, and was Deputy/Acting
Commander of Joint Special Forces during the Iraq war. In 2006, he was
awarded the Bronze Star for his service. Commander Zinke retired from
active duty in 2008 after serving for 23 years. Thank you,
Congressman, for taking the time to meet with my son and for providing
him with some valuable advice and insight on your
experience.

IN NEWS YOU WON’T HEAR IN THE
MAINSTREAM MEDIA: Promises Made, Promises Kept: President
Trump Brings Americans Home
Since taking office, President Donald J.
Trump and his administration have secured the release of 47 detained
Americans abroad — and that’s just the beginning as countries around
the world respond to our renewed display of American strength and
President Trump’s commitment to leaving no American behind.
The released American citizens
include:
Ksenia Karelina — an American ballet
dancer who was wrongfully detained in a Russian penal colony for 14
months — returned home in April.
“Mr. Trump, I’m so, so grateful for you
to bring me home and for [the] American government. And I never felt
more blessed to be American — and I’m so, so happy to get home. Thank
you,” Karelina said.

the Oval Office on May 5, 2025
Marc Fogel — an American teacher who was
wrongfully detained in a Russian prison for years — returned home in
February, making good on a promise President Trump made to Fogel’s
95-year-old mother, Malphine.
“President Trump is a hero … I will
forever be indebted to President Trump, to Steve [Witkoff] over there
— what a dynamic man this guy is. When I met him, the energy, the
can-do attitude just exudes from his body,” Fogel said.

the White House on February 11, 2025
Keith Siegel — an American held hostage
by Hamas for 484 days — was freed in February.
“I am here and I am alive. President
Trump, you saved my life. You saved the life of 33 hostages because of
your efforts,” Siegel said.

George Glezmann — an American held by the
Taliban in Afghanistan for 836 days — was freed in March, joining
Americans Ryan Corbett and William McKenty, who were released on the
night of President Trump’s inauguration.
“President Trump — amazing. Thank God
he’s in the White House where he’s at and thank God he got me out …
I’m in debt with everybody that was involved in this equation because
they got me home. A free American individual, free from the hands of
these people that abducted because of my U.S. passport, basically —
and I’m just thankful. I got no words to express my gratitude for my
liberty, my freedom,” Glezmann said.

On Tuesday, I joined the American Coal
Council to discuss how we can restore balance to our energy policy and
ensure coal continues to play a vital role in powering America.
Coal remains essential to our economy,
energy grid, and industrial base. Anthracite coal, in particular, is
critical for steel production, a pillar of American manufacturing.
In Congress, we’re working to roll back
the burdensome regulations imposed by the Biden administration, which
unfairly targeted this industry and stifled growth. With the right
policies in place, the U.S. can lead the world in producing clean coal
more efficiently and with lower emissions than any other nation.
Thank you to the American Coal Council
and its members for all you do to fuel America’s future.

Later, I met with Acting Federal Deposit
Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Chairman Travis Hill to continue the
conversation on debanking and discuss ways to modernize deposit
insurance without putting undue stress on our financial
institutions.
We discussed streamlining the examination
process, solutions for strengthening deposit insurance, and how to
prevent Operation Chokepoint 3.0. Acting Chairman Hill has made
meaningful progress, and I look forward to working with him to ensure
regulations support consumers and community banking rather than stifle
them.

I met with the leadership of the
Williamsport Water and Sanitary Authorities to discuss critical
infrastructure priorities for Lycoming County, including the Heller
Dam and the Transmission Water Main Replacement Project.
In recent years, we’ve had real
success—securing federal funding for levee improvements and the Old
City Revitalization Initiative. We’re working together to build on
that momentum with new efforts to modernize the region’s water
system.
I’ll continue working with local leaders
to advance practical, forward-looking infrastructure solutions that
serve the needs of Williamsport and surrounding communities.

I questioned Treasury Secretary Bessent
during today’s Financial Services Committee hearing on Wednesday.
We discussed how misguided regulations,
like the disastrous Beneficial Ownership Rule, hurt small businesses
across Pennsylvania. I thanked Secretary Bessent for listening to Main
Street and acting quickly to roll it back.
We also covered the importance of
eliminating debanking by regulators, restoring common-sense oversight,
and ensuring U.S. banks aren’t placed at a global disadvantage by
one-size-fits-all capital requirements such as the GSIB surcharge,
leverage requirements, and Basel III Endgame.
I appreciate Secretary Bessent’s
thoughtful approach and his willingness to work with Congress to bring
accountability and clarity to federal financial policy. This is a
welcome change after the last four years. Click
here or below to watch.

I spoke on the House Floor to honor a true hero: Assistant Fire
Chief Chip Chidester of the Harford
Volunteer Fire Company. Chip spent 40
years in the firehouse—29 of them as Assistant Chief. He was a mentor,
a friend to all, and a steady presence who made Susquehanna County a
better place. He tragically passed away from injuries sustained in the
line of duty, while bravely battling a brush fire. We extend our heartfelt
condolences to his wife Barbara, his family, and the entire fire
company. May God bless his soul. Click
here to watch me give remarks on the floor of the U.S. House in
Chip's honor.
Later on, I joined Congressman Tom Emmer
and several colleagues from the House Small Business Committee for a
roundtable discussion with leading small business stakeholders. From
retail and real estate to restaurants, homebuilders, and Main Street
entrepreneurs, we heard directly from job creators about the
challenges they face and the opportunities we can unlock through
pro-growth policy.

On Wednesday, I hosted a roundtable of the Congressional Cigar
Caucus with industry leaders and special guest Rocky Patel. The
premium cigar industry is made up of small manufacturers, family-owned
distributors, and specialty retailers, including many right here in
Pennsylvania. Our state has over 1,200 tobacco farms and a thriving
cigar manufacturing and distribution base.
We discussed the urgent need to roll back Biden-era FDA regulations
that threaten to shut these businesses down with overreaching,
one-size-fits-all mandates.
Under President Trump’s leadership, we now have the opportunity to
restore common sense, protect small businesses, and ensure federal
agencies respect the unique nature of handcrafted cigars.

On Friday, I joined local
legislators and community leaders for the Back Mountain Chamber’s
Annual Legislative Breakfast—a great way to end National Small
Business Week.
We had a productive Q&A on the issues that matter most to our
region and to our small business community—including access to
capital, workforce challenges, and the need to extend provisions of
President Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. In Congress, I’m focused on
reducing burdensome regulations and advancing pro-growth policies that help Main
Street hire, expand, and succeed.
Thank you to Chamber President Sandy Race for hosting this
outstanding event and for your leadership in supporting local
enterprise.
We honored the spouses of our service members on Friday. Your
strength, loyalty and contributions deserve our recognition and
gratitude. You are the quiet heroes behind our military. To every
spouse who holds down the home front, thank you for your unwavering
support and countless sacrifices.

As her internship ends, I want to
thank Gabrielle Carnevale for her outstanding work for the people of
Pennsylvania’s 9th District. Our entire team greatly valued her
contributions, and we wish her continued success in all that lies
ahead.

May God continue to bless our nation. I
look forward to seeing you soon,

Dan
