Hi John,

Today, we celebrate mothers, and all those who love, nurture, and show up for others in ways that shape lives and communities.

For me, motherhood has been one of life’s greatest gifts, one I never took for granted, as both of my daughters were born through the miracle of IVF. They were journeys filled with hope, uncertainty, and deep gratitude, and taught me resilience, humility, and a fierce love that grounds everything I do.

Being a mom has brought me more joy than I can put into words. It has also brought heartbreak—especially after losing our oldest daughter, Brooke, at just five years old. That loss reshaped my world, but it also renewed my commitment to fighting for families, for healthcare, and for compassion in public service.

So today, I’m thinking of every mom—those with children in their arms, in their hearts, or on the way. I’m thinking of the women still waiting, those who became mothers through hope and science or through marriage, those who grieve, and those who give care in countless quiet ways.

Happy Mother’s Day. However you arrived at motherhood—however you show up—I see you. And I thank you.

- Leslie
