Hi Friend,
As a mother of young children, I know how I’d like to spend my time this Mother’s Day: I’d like to slow down, take a break from caregiving, and focus for a couple of hours on my own needs. But more than that, what I really want is for our elected officials to stop hurting moms and families around the world.
I want the “bronatalist” agenda championed by Donald Trump and Elon Musk to be replaced with a call for paid parental leave and robust family planning funding here in the U.S., and I want to see the restoration of U.S. funding [[link removed]] for family planning, reproductive health, maternal and child health, and other global health programs around the world.
While the Trump administration calls for women in this country to have more babies, it continues to “freeze” critical global health funding. According to the Guttmacher Institute, if this funding is not released, each year, 47.6 million people will be denied contraceptives, leading to more than 17 million additional unintended pregnancies and more than 30,000 preventable pregnancy related deaths.
Take action on Mother's Day! [[link removed]]
We know that investment in international family planning yields high returns. In 2024, the U.S. invested $607.5 million in international family planning programs, which resulted in millions of women and couples receiving contraception, millions of unintended pregnancies prevented, and thousands fewer maternal deaths.
Email your members of Congress now [[link removed]] and demand that they restore global health funding, including for maternal and child health care.
For Mother’s Day this year, let’s give moms and families around the world the best gifts possible: health and reproductive freedom.
Sincerely,
