Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms and mother-figures out there — including the love of my life and mother of our three kids, Mia; my amazing mother-in-law, Magali; and my own incredible mom, Cynthia!
My mom is one of my heroes. A true social justice warrior who devoted her life to fighting for what’s right, including fighting for the restoration of democracy in the Philippines, her home country, and fighting for justice, fair pay, and food and water breaks for farm workers while organizing for the United Farm Workers of America, alongside labor icons Dolores Huerta, Cesar Chavez, and Philip Vera Cruz. To this day, my mom continues to inspire and mentor young activists working to create a better future for us all.
My mom first came to the U.S. in 1965 by way of a three-week-long boat ride from the Philippines. Decades later, she became an American citizen so she could vote for me in my first election, and every one since then. She’s my biggest cheerleader and has always believed in me. Throughout my life, she’s taught me to never stop fighting for justice and to always love and serve your community.
I love you and appreciate you so much, Mom!
Thank you to all of the hard-working mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and mother-figures out there — I hope you’re able to enjoy this special day surrounded by your loved ones.
Best,
Rob
