Hey John,

This Mother’s Day, I’m not just celebrating and honoring the other incredible moms in my life — I’m also reflecting on the responsibility of being a mom. I come from a long line of strong women, and when I chose to become a parent, I imagined continuing that legacy. Instead, I found myself charged with the responsibility of raising sons.

It can be daunting to wrestle with the reality of raising compassionate sons who understand their privilege and who are willing to speak up for what’s right. I take pride in teaching my boys that how they engage with the world matters and modeling for them what it looks like to show up for what you care about, at the ballot box and beyond.

Doing this work can sometimes be difficult, but When We All Vote is dedicated to making it easier. We provide resources on how to teach the young people in your life how to register to vote and ways to talk to their peers about the importance of this work, no matter their age.

Regardless of the gender of those you’re raising (or helping to raise, even if you’re not a parent), it is important to help the young people in your life understand their power and the importance of civic engagement. Here are two things you can do to get started:
