I'm so proud of my mother, Congresswoman Nellie Pou. Not only is she an incredible mother and role model to me, but she's also an inspirational figure to my son and everyone in our family. My mom has devoted her life to serving her community in North Jersey.
She first started her career in public service when she was elected to New Jersey's state legislature. She then went on to continue working diligently for her constituents while in the New Jersey Senate, and is now the first Latina Congresswoman in New Jersey history! As you know, she assembled a campaign at breakneck speed last fall when her mentor and giant, Congressman Bill Pascrell, passed away. Starting her campaign from scratch with only two months to the election showed her dedication and determination.
As you've been hearing from Nellie and others on her team, this district has become unexpectedly competitive. Now, as my mom looks ahead to her re-election, she knows that Republicans will spend millions of dollars to try to defeat her and flip this seat to their column. But I know my mom is a fierce fighter, and their efforts will fail.
