Notes from the Office of Speaker Mike Johnson

Hello, friends! Thank you for subscribing to the Office of Speaker Johnson's newsletter highlighting what's happening on Capitol Hill and in Louisiana's 4th Congressional District.

IN THE HOUSE

Speaker Johnson and House Republicans passed H.R. 881, The Department of Homeland Security Restrictions on Confucius Institutes and Chinese Entities of Concern Act, to ensure American educational institutions are free from Chinese Communist Party (CCP) influence. Following passage, Speaker Johnson said, "House Republicans will not tolerate adversarial regimes, like the Chinese Communist Party, using propaganda to manipulate students, undermine academic institutions, and compromise national security."

On Thursday, the House passed H.R. 276, the Gulf of America Act of 2025, to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. Following the bill's passage, Speaker Johnson said, "This is one of the many steps House Republicans are taking to codify President Trump's agenda into law, and we're just getting started."

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK

On Tuesday, Speaker Johnson joined House Republican Leadership at their weekly press conference to address their efforts to codify President Trump's America First agenda into law. He also outlined the commonsense provisions included in budget reconciliation and criticized Congressional Democrats for their refusal to work with House Republicans to prevent the largest tax hike in U.S. history.
