# [#]Mother's Day is dedicated to celebrating the inspiring women in our lives who have shaped all of us into who we are today.
But mothers need more than just a day to celebrate. They need real structural reforms, and I am keeping up the fight.
After a decade-long battle, I am proud that my legislation, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), finally became law and went into effect last year. The PWFA allows pregnant and postpartum workers to get the accommodations they need to have a safe and healthy pregnancy and protects these workers from retaliation from their workplace.
Access to the vital accommodations they need during pregnancy and after childbirth is necessary, and now women’s health and jobs can be protected.
But, there is much work left to be done. Moms who work full-time all year long are still paid just 74 cents for every $1 paid to dads. When looking at all working moms, the gap widens to 62 cents. We must demand equal pay for equal work for moms.
The cost of living and child care are too high, and moms and families aren’t getting the support they need, especially as Trump and his MAGA cronies are cutting critical programs and services all to give tax breaks to their billionaire donors.
They need access to the full range of reproductive and health care services and the protection of their civil rights.
I will always stand with mothers and fight to give them the recognition, equality and support they deserve.
To all the amazing mothers out there, including my wife Joyce, thank you for everything you do. Happy Mother's Day!
Thank you,
Jerry
