Marx said it best: the ruling ideas of any epoch are the ideas of its ruling class. But those concepts have been contested in a furious battle of ideas, with many victories won.

Recognizing this, Trump & Co. are not only attempting to “deconstruct the administrative state” to make it more billionaire-friendly, but are also seeking a reevaluation of all values — a cultural revolution — to impose a racist and sexist hierarchy.

They’re going after museums, libraries, and institutions of higher learning with guidelines about what’s acceptably American. Diversity, equality, and social justice are all on the chopping block as MAGA saws away at the social fabric that’s bound the country together for generations.
