John,
Happy Mother’s Day to all who celebrate today.
At Vote Pro-Choice, today is personal, it’s political, and it’s rooted in love. Our senior leadership is made up of moms! We like to say that we’re mothers by choice, for choice.
It makes our mission that much more urgent – to create a future where we’re all able to decide if, when, and how to build or grow a family, AND to be able to raise our families in safe, healthy communities.
And the truth is, more than 50% of people who seek abortion care are already mothers. Having access to reproductive rights empowers moms and parents to make personal healthcare decisions without the interference of politicians.
Our work is about dignity, humanity, and the freedoms we want for every family, no matter their zip code or tax bracket.
Sometimes, we can feel very far from our goals—especially on days like last Thursday, when ICE agents physically and violently detained a mother from Worcester, Massachusetts in front of her two children, including a newborn infant. The confrontation led to the arrest of her 16-year-old daughter, who was reportedly thrown to the ground by law enforcement, and the arrest of a school board candidate who tried to intervene.
No matter where we stand on policy positions, surely we can all agree: government agents violently ripping families apart is unacceptable, especially in sacred moments like a mother caring for her children.
As we mark Mother’s Day, we recommit to building a future where every person — no matter their background, status, or circumstance — has the freedom and safety to care for their families, their bodies, and their lives with dignity.
Thank you for standing with us.
