Hey, True Texans!
Fran addressed this in Friday's email, and I want to touch on it too. The #1 question we're getting from y'all right now is what to do about the Islamic threat to Texas. With communities like EPIC popping up and all the legislation being moved, it's no wonder you're concerned. The hits seem to be coming fast and furiously, and it can be a bit overwhelming.
Never fear, Wade is here! Wade Miller is a long-time friend to True Texas Project and has spoken at multiple meetings, including our 15th Birthday Conference. In fact, he's one of the ones who not only did not back down when the media suggested he withdraw from speaking at our conference, but he put out a public statement saying he would never do that and that there was no reason to do that, along with a lot of facts. That makes him a fave of mine, and I wish certain other speakers had followed his lead (or at least would apologize for making such a grave error against us...hint, hint... you know who you are). But I digress...
Why do I bring up Wade? Because when he saw that the issue of Islamic takeover was a top interest, he sent me an article that his organization, Center for Renewing America, put out: The Islamist Threat to American Communities. I encourage you to read it because it is really good.
True Texas Tasks We are nearly 2 weeks in to our new daily calls to action, and you guys seems to appreciate them! I got this response from one True Texan:
Thank you for all you continue to do for us. I have to admit that I feel like moving back to FL after seeing how awful the TX lege is!!! Easy to get discouraged but then I see how hard TTP is fighting and I don't want to surrender...
Notes like that make this work all feel worthwhile! We know lots of you are taking action. Keep it up! The legislative session is just 3 weeks away from being over, and we want to leave no stone unturned. The calls to action are posted on our social media pages, and they look like this:
Humans Need Humans
As we finish up the battles at the Capitol for this legislative session, I urge you to make your monthly TTP meetings a priority. The networking and support can really help you deal with the negativity. And if you're not feeling the weight, you might be able to provide encouragement to someone there who is. Yes, online podcasts are great, but they cannot replace human interaction.
And speaking of human interaction... I'm super excited for a DFW-area event we have on Thursday this week! You can see details below, but we're going dancing! My family will be there, and I'm hoping you will be too! A local business owner wanted to support TTP, and this is what he's got to offer. Come blow off some steam with us and dance. Notice it says all levels welcome.😉
May Calendar Check out our May calendar, right click if you'd like to save it to your device to reference later, or just go to truetexasproject.com/events.
Here's a few that didn't make it onto the calendar above: May 15th - Tarrant Two Steppin' & Texas Tunes May 29th - NW Harris Lunch Social, Collin Happy Hour May 30th - Denton Happy Hour
Monthly TTP podcasts
If you haven't yet, make sure to watch our May podcast of TTP@Home! We recorded Kevin Sorbo at our Texas Tough gala, and we're making his message available to all! We've never offered a recording of our gala keynote before, so this is a special treat.
Please remember, everything we do is funded by you. If you can donate, any amount... please do! I'll talk more about it in a future newsletter, but we are facing a budget shortfall, and this week we had to ask staff members to take a pay cut. It was heartbreaking to me. Not only is it hard to impact families that way, but it reduces the difference we can make in Texas as well.
We will do the best and the most we can with what y'all provide. I promise!
Thanks for being part of the True Texas army!
For the love of Texas, Julie McCarty, CEO True Texas Project
